That Friday feeling, is this familiar to you?
How many of you work Monday – Friday? How many count down the minutes until the weekend starts and then spend all afternoon on Sunday gradually feeling worse and worse about having to go back to work the next day? Well maybe its time for a change?
Working in a job that you find unrewarding or stressful can have long term implications on your physical and mental health, and as we generally spend 1/2 of our adult life at work, and often more than that, wouldn’t it be better if you were working in an area that you love, the best bit of my job is I never get the Sunday blues.
I have had a lot of different jobs in my time and I have gained a very clear knowledge of what I am good at and what I am able to achieve, my light bulb moment came when I realised that just because I am good at something, I do not HAVE to do it! If it doesn’t bring me joy then it is not worth my time or energy to pursue it as a career. I was running my own design business and it had the potential to become really successful but although I am technically capable of design and I was able to build websites in code, it did not light me up from the inside; ‘the hills were not alive with the sound of music’ when I thought about work so I made the decision to put my life happiness first.
One of the happiest days of my life was when I closed that business, and as soon as I did and the pressure was off I started designing for fun again, no pressure and no expectations just something for me, and I continue to use these skills in my clinics just in a different way. I am fortunate to have been in a position to make such a huge life change but I believe that with support and planning anyone can move away from things that do not light their soul and find a place where they can be personally and professionally fulfilled.
